Desertification is another phenomenon that causes significant natural catastrophes. Because of the rise in the global temperature and because of intense human activities, in some areas of the world the land is suffering heavy droughts, lack of water and a reduced food production.
For instance, in the north-west of China, the Minqin region, which in the past was fertile and rich in water and grasslands, today is highly affected by the desertification process. At global level, deserts are increasingly extending.
Some regions of the world have to face extreme droughts, desertification, shortage of drinkable water and fertile land, which bring to food crises, famine and, in brief, shortage of primary sources for life.
